Depending on availability, visitors may be asked if they wish to operate a station, to experience firsthand the thrill of making a contact across the country or world with no wires in between.
Amateur radio or ham radio is a fascinating hobby that has captivated the interest of countless thousands and provides a stimulating technical hobby for people around the globe. Many radio amateurs or hams enjoy talking to friends around the globe. Others enjoy contacting people in far and distant lands, while others enjoy constructing their own equipment, investigation propagation techniques, experimenting with new technology, and all based around radio.
An amateur radio operator is someone who uses equipment at an amateur radio station to engage in two-way personal communications with other amateur operators on radio frequencies assigned to the amateur radio service. Amateur radio operators have been granted an amateur radio license by a governmental regulatory authority after passing an examination on applicable regulations, electronics, radio theory, and radio operation. As a component of their license, amateur radio operators are assigned a call sign that they use to identify themselves during communication.
It turns out that Amateur Electronic Supply AES suddenly announced that they would be ceasing all business operations at the end of this month. After nearly 60 years of operations, the owners of AES have decided to pull the plug. There will be no going out of business sale, only a transfer of goods.
